Cash-for-vote Scam,Centre
A day after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asserted that his AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu will face the full fury of the law in the cash-for-vote case, the AP government on Tuesday decided to ask the Centre to frame rules under Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act empowering the Governor to oversee law and order in Hyderabad and probe phone-tapping of the TDP chief and his colleagues.
The AP Cabinet, which held an emergency meeting under the leadership of Naidu, passed a resolution, condemning phone-tapping of the Chief Minister and calling for implementation of Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act in letter and spirit. The resolution will be forwarded to the Central government.
Taking the fight against the TS government to the Centre, the AP government will send its Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao and DGP JV Ramudu for Delhi on Wednesday. Both will meet the Union Cabinet Secretary and the Home Secretary and formally complain against the TS government for ‘violating’ provisions of the Act. They would also ask the Central government officials to frame rules under Section 8 of the Reorganisation Act to vest powers over law and order in Hyderabad with the Governor.
Naidu, who left for Delhi on Tuesday evening, will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprise them of the latest developments. Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas and the government’s communications advisor Parakala Prabhakar accompanied the Chief Minister to Delhi.
Briefing mediapersons after a marathon five-hour long Cabinet meeting, Yanamala said the Cabinet had decided to complain to the Centre as the TS government had violated the AP Reorganisation Act.
“After the phone-tapping episode, the AP government has lost confidence in the TS government. We have decided to ask the Centre to frame rules under Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act vesting powers over law and order in Hyderabad with the Governor. Only then can the AP government function freely,” Yanamala said.
Section 8 entrusts the Governor with the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of Andhras.
