At least two people were killed and 11 others injured after a bomb blast in South Egypt's tourist town Aswan city, health officials said on Monday.

Police said it is first such attack in the Egyptian tourist town since a wave of violence following the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. The incident occurred on Sunday when a bomb was detonated at a distance of 20 meter from the rest-house of the Head of Aswan Security Directorate. Two persons died and 11 others were injured in the blast.

Two police vehicles and a number of shops were also damaged, Mamdouh Weshahi, Under Secretary in the Ministry of Health said. Security forces and bomb expert team rushed to the spot alongwith medical services. The whole area was cordoned off and security personnel searched if any other live bomb was present at the place. Egypt has witnessed many attacks targeting police and military personnel as well as civilians in the recent period. The attacks have increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Over 500 policemen and soldiers, have been killed in the attacks.
