Mangalagiri: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has given its nod for the establishment of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri. The State government has received communication to this effect from the Union government.

The Union Health and Family Welfare Department will take the responsibility of construction of buildings and supply of medical equipment to AIIMS. The State government must first lay a connecting road from the national highway to the hospital site and make available water and power supply before works are executed.

It may be recalled here that a four-member high-level committee of the Union Health Ministry visited Mangalagiri on December 20 to inspect the land allotted by the Andhra Pradesh government for the establishment of AIIMS. The committee members were Raipur AIIMS Superintendent Ajay Dany, Superintending Engineer M Rastogi, senior architect Rajiv Kanna Vijay and Health Ministry Under-secretary B L Meena.
