Its official now! The Andhra Pradesh government has declared that once the deadline for the land pooling scheme expires the lands of those farmers who have not consented to the scheme will be taken over by the government by invoking the new land acquisition act. This was conveyed by Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister, Prathipati Pulla Rao in the company of another MP Rayapati Samba Siva Rao.
The deadline for the farmers is Feb 28. What this means is that once the new land acquisition bill is passed in Parliament, the farmers cannot win even if they approach the judiciary for the simple reason that the judiciary only interprets the constitution. It cannot change legislation.
Narendra Modi is said to have made it clear that there is not going to be any compromise in getting the new bill passed in Parliament and that there would be no changes made to it.
The only hope for the farmers now is Anna Hazare’s agitation and the response to it which might force the government to climb down.
