A Tamil Nadu court has discharged AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa from an 18-Year-Old Income Tax return case. About 4 cases filed against Jayalalithaa, her close associate Sasikala and a Company Sasi Enterprises in which they acted as partners were dismissed.
Income Tax cases were filed against Jayalalithaa in 1996-1997 for not filing Income Tax returns.
However, Jayalalithaa claims the chartered accountant whom she hired to look after her tax matters failed to fulfill his duty of filing returns. The Former CM went on to say she didn't willfully default in filing the tax return.
To bail out themselves from trouble, Jayalalithaa and Sasikala has jointly paid Rs 1.99 crore on December 1st last year as compounding fee forn't filing tax returns on time. Hence, The Prosecution has withdrawn charges against them.
