Sirpur legislator Koneru Konappa on Friday paid Rs. 7 lakh to schools in Kagaznagar towards the partial payment of school fees on behalf of the children of the workers of the Sirpur Paper Mill (SPM) where production was suspended for the last four months.
The MLA had already paid Rs. 14 lakh of the Rs. 28 lakh dues contributed by different sections of society to the schools. The students could not pay their school fee as their parents were jobless since the suspension of production in the SPM. Some 1,500 students owed Rs.70 lakh as overdue fee to 15 local schools which agreed for a settlement for Rs.28 lakh.
