Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is planning to increase the number of distilleries in the state. Confirming this, excise commissioner R.V. Chandravadan said, “There have been several applications for increasing production of liquor. We can consider giving licences to new ones. But the final decision will be taken at the government-level. We will work out the modalities shortly and submit them to the government.”
Officials have said that the average liquor consumption in TS has risen and the current production does not meet that demand
The total production of liquor in the state is 1,755.27 lakh litres. In an attempt to provide employment to the youth, the government has, in principle, decided to promote manufacture of inexpensive liquor. Sources said the government is looking into all the pros and cons , as the people’s health is at stake.
