To make AP more global investor friendly the Chandrababu Naidu government has further liberalized the labor laws to allow women working in night shifts in factories in SEZ’s across the state.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday issued circular allowing women to work in factories in night shifts. In 2001, the High Court of (united) Andhra Pradesh had struck down Section 66 (1) (c) of the Factories Act, 1948 that restricts women from working at a factory between 7 pm and 6 am.
Taking cue from the same, Chief Minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu asked officials to implement it and facilitate at a multinational company Kellogg’s at Sri City during a business seminar at Sri City.
The Chief Minister has directed the Office of the Director of Factories of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, to immediately rescind the allow women to work in night shifts across all factories in the new State of Andhra Pradesh, with necessary safety and security measures.
He has directed the managements of the factories to ensure provisions for the occupational safety and health, equal opportunities for women employees, provision of lunch rooms/rest rooms/ladies toilets and night crèches for their kids apart from establishing a cell for protection from sexual harassment besides transport for those coming for night shift work.
