Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders on Thursday strongly objected to the change in design for the Pranahita-Chevella project. They alleged that Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao in connivance with Maharashtra Chief Minister had struck a deal to completely scrap the project.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Deputy Congress Legislative Party leader T Jeevan Reddy felt that there was something fishy about government’s idea. “Hence the Congress party is strongly considering conducting a comprehensive study on this project by inviting experts,” he said.
Questioning the rationality of the government’s decision to change the site from Tummuddi Hatti to Kaleshwaram, Jeevan Reddy alleged, “It appears to be a part of the attempts by the KCR to join NDA by mortgaging interests of Telangana.”
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy held that the KCR and Minister T Harish Rao were ill-equipped to handle a project like Pranahita-Chevella.
The change in design is uncalled for, considering thousands of crores of rupees were already spent by the earlier government. “It’s astonishing to note that the same Vapco company which chose the Tummuddi Hatti site has now selected Kaleshwaram as ideal ground to start the project,” said the TPCC chief.
