Hyderabad: In a tit-for-tat, the Telangana government is gearing up to approach the High Court against the Andhra Pradesh government and its lead banker, Andhra Bank, for acting against its interests. The AP State Council of Higher Education had recently approached the High Court challenging the decision of State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), Telangana’s principal banker, for freezing its assets.

Earlier, the TSCHE had  asked banks that are holding assets of APSCHE to freeze the accounts until the APSCHE bifurcation tussle is resolved. But, Andhra Bank had refused to oblige to the request and had written back saying the APSCHE is  legally a valid body as per the AP Reorganisation Act.

However, Telangana State government’s principal banker SBH froze APSCHE’s accounts. AP HRD minister had termed the act as “illegal” after which the APSCHE approached the High Court.

In retaliation, the Telangana government is now looking to approach the court. Telangana Advocate General K. Ramakrishna Reddy and TSCHE chairman Prof. T. Papi Reddy met Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to consult on the issue. Prof. Papi Reddy informed that the Advocate General had advised the government to file a case against Andhra Bank and the AP government.

“Telangana State government will file a case, probably on Monday, against Andhra Bank; APSCHE and AP government will also be parties to the case,” Prof. Reddy said. TSCHE and APSCHE have been embroiled in disagreements virtually over every issue since the former’s formation.

TSCHE is left penniless since the government has not allocated any budget to the body and the APSCHE has not been forthcoming in loaning money to the Telangana body.
