Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress leaders here on Tuesday threatened to launch agitation in support of striking Municpal workers if the State government failed to take steps to end the strike. Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here along with former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, Anjan Kumar Yadav, former MLA D Sudhir Reddy, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s government had failed to keep its promise to Municipal employees though one year elapsed since the government came into being.
“The Chief Minister promised to regularise the services of contract employees of the Municipalities. But in practice, nothing has happened till now,” he pointed out. He demanded that the government concede their demands put forward by the striking employees.
The demands made workers included regularisation of services, minimum wages, payment of arrears, issuing of health cards, construction double bedroom houses, provision of Rs 5 lakh insurance and implement the GOs issued by previous governments and so on.
Vikramarka said the TPCC had directed all district Congress Committees leaders across the State to extend solidarity to the striking municipal employees. Replying to a question, he alleged that the Chief Minister had ignored all the departments except those handled by his son and son-in-law.
