YSRCP to protest across AP
In protest against the indifference of State Government in tackling the drought situation, YSR Congress Party leaders would submit memorandum to officials at mandal level on May 4 and 5 and will intensify the agitation if steps are not taken in providing succor to the farmers and other sections.
“The State is ignoring the drought situation in state which is facing acute drinking water shortage, lack of MSP to the agriculture produce and failing to set up the Market Stabilisation Fund which Chandrababu Naidu had promised during the elections,” party senior leader Dr MV Mysoora Reddy told reporters here.
Though the BJP and its ally TDP have promised to implement the Swaminathan Commission Report, farmers are not getting MSP and no funds were released to handle the acute drinking water problem. There are no effective steps to stop the migration of labour and no reports with proper assessment were sent to Centre on drought situation.
The Central team has completed the assessment as a mere formality visiting a select few villages during night time. Highlighting all these failures we will submit a memorandum to the Government at mandal level and intensify it to see that farmers get their due, he said.
On special category status, he said,” the State has failed to pursue the matter with the Centre and did not even convene an all-party meeting on the issue. TDP government is interested in giving sops to industrialists but the core issue of special status is being ignored.
It was an assurance given by the Prime Minister in the Parliament and the NDA government should honour it. While there is no categorical assurance from the Centre the State is sitting on the issue. We are prepared to cooperate and be party of delegation to Delhi on the issue but nothing is forthcoming from the State,” he said.
