City Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy said on Saturday that for maintaining law and order, the CCTV camera became absolutely essential. One CCTV camera, he said, was equivalent to 30 policemen.
He was speaking on the occasion of Filmnagar Cooperative Society offering him a cheque for Rs 31 lakh for the installation of 100 CCTV cameras in the Filmnagar area. This project would be completed by next year.
He said the effort was to make Hyderabad a city free from crime. In this regard, CCTV cameras had a great role.
A couple of cases of rape and run by cabbies and others have been solved with the help of CCTV cameras installed by private agencies in Hyderabad.
At that rate, the Police Commissioner's equation of one CCTV camera being equivalent to 30 policemen holds good.
The Police Commissioner said it was proposed to install 100,000 CCTV cameras in the city by next year.
