WARANGAL: Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu has launched the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), in Warangal city, to preserve its heritage. Almost 12 cities will be developed under this Union government initiative, the minister said.
The Union minister laid the foundation stone for the HRIDAY scheme pylon at the 1000 pillar temple and addressed the people who gathered there to witness the event. He asked people to strive for heritage linked urban development and assured that the Central government will sanction adequate funds for the scheme.
Venkaiah Naidu said that the Centre will allot `40 crore to each city that comes under this scheme. Warangal city has been allotted `36 crore as of now, and the rest of the money will be released soon, the minister said. He added that ` 12 crore has been given to deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari, for Warangal’s development, on Sunday. The city has been divided into five heritage wealth zone for easier development. They are Fort Warangal, Vaddepalli tank, Bandhrakali temple Foreshore bund and Kazipet Dharga.
He implored the people to take active part in preserving their heritage and suggested some useful tips to officials and the State government.
The minister also mentioned the marvelous rule under the Kakatiya dynasty, the remnant of which, he believes should be preserved.
Referring to Amruth scheme, he said that the Centre has selected 500 cities across the country to improve drinking water distribution, solid waste management, transportation, IT and administration.
He also said Hyderabad and Warangal are among the 100 cities that were elected under the Smart cities scheme.
