Pakistan Cricket Board Names Sarfraz Ahmed as T20 Captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday named Sarfraz Ahmed as the captain of national T20 team. Sarfraz's appointment come after Shahid Afridi resigned earlier this week after Pakistan failed miserably in the just-concluded T20 World Cup in India.

Sarfraz was appointed vice-captain of the ODI and T20 teams last year. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper batsman was one of the brightest spots for Pakistan in the Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh in February-March.

PCB chairman Shahryar Khan said: "I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position. His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role".

After the World Cup debacle, Pakistan have been hit by resignations. Head coach Waqar Younis resigned on Monday. The PCB also dissolved the selection committee, headed by Haroon Rasheed.
