Telugu Desam MLA Talasani Yadav feels bite of defection law

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is scheduled to induct senior Telugu Desam Party MLA Talasani Srinivasa Yadav into his Cabinet on Tuesday. Mr Yadav is facing an “enquiry” by the Speaker, with the TDP seeking his disqualification as he defected to the TRS without quitting his seat.

There is no bar for MLAs belonging to one party joining the Cabinet of another party to make it a coalition ministry. In Mr Yadav’s case, the TD is not joining the TRS ministry; Mr Yadav has not quit his seat despite joining TRS a month ago.

Amid this controversy, Mr Yadav has called a press conference on Tuesday. It is not yet known whe-ther Mr Yadav will quit his membership before or  immediately after the swearing-in-ceremony to seek fresh mandate from Sanatnagar in a bypoll that will have to be held within six months. It would be embarrassing for both Mr Yadav and the government if he stays on in the Cabinet.
