The Andhra Pradesh government is going to set up 125-feet-high BR Ambedkar statue in its new capital of Amaravati, reminding the Deekshabhumi of the architect of the Indian Constitution near Amravti (not far from Nagpur) in Maharashtra.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made this announcement in the State Assembly on Tuesday, commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. The ideals of the architect of the Constitution would be taken to the people in the year, he added.

The Chief Minister said the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes plans would be implemented. On the occasion of Ambedkar anniversary, foundation would be laid for 600,000 houses for the poor.

Chandrababu said while only Rs 68 crore used to be allotted during the Congress regimes for the SC Corporation, the TDP government would be spending Rs 460 crore.

He reminded that the TDP founder, NT Rama Rao, used to say often that Dr BR Ambedkar was his inspiration.
