Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has a dream of having one film studio that is better than newspaper baron Raomoji Rao's signature Ramoji Film city.
Ramoji film City, popularly called RFC, is world famous and is a modern landmark in Hyderabad.
So, KCR also wants to build one that is better than the RFC, according to IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan. It will be ultra-modern and have greater space than the RFC.
Speaking on the `Media and Entertainment Business' topic held under the auspices of the FICCI, Jayesh Ranjan addressed the Bollywood and Tollywood respresentatives and pleaded for their co-operation in this regard.
He said the proposed KCR studios would have the latest technologies of film production, and urged the film-makers to give their mite to the founding of the studio.
In regard to arresting film piracy, Jayesh Ranjan said the State of Telangana would adopt the British policy.
Significantly, the IT Secretary said at present the State government had no means to block websites and the government would try to acquire the powers to block websites.
The government would allot 10-acre land for a gaming animation cluster to be set up at a cost of Rs. 500 crore.
Ramoji Film city is in the private sector. A studio of that dimensions in the government sector would be a big drain on the public exchequer. Can the government afford such a big drain on the exchequer?
After all, what does a studio produce? Just escapist fare.
