Jaganmohan Reddy (YCP leader) is always smiling. `Why he smiles I don't understand?' AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister was responding to Jagan's repeated questioning on the Pattiseema project. Jagan said Chandrababu Naidu was gloating over Pattiseema, which had no storage capacity. So it was a waste of Rs 1600 crore.
Chandrababu said the need for Pattiseema was made known to the House many times. After listening to the whole of Ramayana, you come back and ask `What is Rama to Sita?' It's like that. This is the problem because the House had many first-time members.
`We had introduced lift-irrigation in the Godavari. We are drawing 8500 cusecs water through Pattiseema. This would help irrigation in the Krishna delta, when farm work starts in June. There is no water in the Krishna because of the reservoirs upstream in the other riverine States.
Reservoir is not necessary in Pattiseema because water needs to flow into canals. That is Pattiseema, that which brings water into the canals. Perhaps, the opposition was in the mistaken belief that because there is no reservoir, the water flows into the sea. That does not happen because of Pattiseema. The water flows into the canals, and from there into the fields.
The Chief Minister explained that the Krishna Delta required 150 tmc water. `We have used 170 tmc water.'
Pattiseema would also help full strorage level in the Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala Projects.
