In a setback for TRS chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Assembly constituency represented by him observed total bandh on Saturday to protest steep hike in property tax.
KCR represents Gajwel Assembly constituency in Medak district. The Gajwel headquarters were recently upgraded as Nagar Panchayat. Earlier, it was just a panchayat. Accordingly, the property tax was hiked sharply.
All the shops and other commercial establishments remained closed throughout the day to protest the hike.
Traders took out a huge rally and raised slogans "KCR down down". Traders said they paid a property tax of less than Rs 100 earlier in Undivided AP but in Telangana State, they were forced to pay over Rs 1.000 as property tax.
"We hoped for better days in Telangana State. But the situation has worsened for us now. The tax was lower in Undivided AP," traders said.
They vowed to continue their struggle since the Telangana government withdraws property tax hike.
