Hyderabad: The Telangana State Prohibition and Excise Department has registered whopping sales of liquor. Beer sales has recorded 37 percent growth in first quarter of the fiscal year 2016 17. In April, the government earned a revenue of Rs.1217.70 crore while it was only Rs.888.63 crore in the same period last year.
The officials of Prohibition and Excise said that rising heat wave and curbs on Gudumba were the main reasons for the hike of beer sales and hoped that department would get bigger income in the fiscal year. As compared to April 2015, the sales of liquor and beer have seen a growth of 71 percent in Nalgonda, 67 percent in Khammam and 66 percent in Warangal.
Of the total revenue, Rs.444.31 crore came from beers and Rs.773.38 crore from liquor.
