A day after BJP leaders staged a protest against rising crimes in Bihar, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Brijnathi Singh, who had contested against the former chief minister and wife of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, in the 2010 Assembly elections from Raghopur constituency, was shot dead here on Friday.
Mr. Singh’s wife and a female relative who were travelling with him in an SUV too received bullet wounds and were admitted in a hospital. Their condition was said to be “serious”.
According to police, Mr. Singh was shot dead near Kachchi Dargah that comes under Fatuha police station limits in the city.
“The unidentified assailants sprayed bullets from AK-47 on the vehicle Mr. Singh and the two others were travelling in. Prima facie, it looks like a fall-out of gang rivalry,” said Manu Maharaj, Superintendent of Police. Eyewitnesses claimed that 27 bullets were fired at the LJP leader, killing him on the spot.
