In a shocking scoop unearthed by a Mumbai based RTI activist, Mansoor Darvesh, the Maharashtra Government has stated that the files of Salman Khan's 2002 hit and run case were burnt to ashes in a major fire that gutted a section of the Maharashtra Secretariat on 21st June 2012. This startling revelation created huge furor across the country with angry activists taking to social media to condemn the MH government's complacency in such a high profile case.

This was the government's reply when Mansoor had sought the details of total number of counsels, solicitors, advocates and legal advisors, public prosecutors appointed and also the expenses incurred by the state government for this case from the State Law and Judiciary Department. The only information the government could provide was that of the appointment of a special public prosecutor at a fee of 6,000 per hearing.

However, the government assured the angry citizens of reconstruction of the lost files. It is well known that after being awarded a 5 year jail term in the infamous Bandra hit and run case by a Special Court, Salman Khan was granted bail from the Bombay High Court which suspended the sentence.
