Major fire in Mumbai port zone,Mumbai Port Trust fire,Wadala fire
An explosion at Mumbai Port Trust Road led to a major fire at Wadala in Mumbai on Saturday evening. As details of the fire are awaited, there are conflicting versions on the nature of explosion.
According to Mumbai Fire Services, it was a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) tanker, which exploded while sources claimed that it was a pipeline, owned by the same company but also used by others to transport liquid fuel, which burst.
“Petroleum product pipeline passing through BPT Road has burst. Hindustran Petroleum Corporation Limited was pumping from its refinery in Trombay to Wadala where they have a depot when the accident took place,” said a source.
Firefighting is currently on and as many as eight fire tenders and four water tankers are at the spot. Further details are awaited.
Mobile phone photographs clicked by people staying in Wadala, and motorists driving along the Freeway showed dense smoke rising from the Port Trust area. Vehiclular traffic movement on the Freeway has been stopped as a precautionary measure.
