Nearly 17,500 students who qualified in the Telangana state Eamcet have failed their Intermediate examination, this year. In the engineering stream, 12,454 students failed their Intermediate examination, while 4,994 failed in the Intermediate examination despite qualifying in the medical stream.
The students who failed will be given Eamcet ranks later, provided they clear the ongoing Intermediate advanced supplementary exams and will be allowed to appear for the Eamcet counselling in the second phase. As many as 1,04,373 students appeared for the engineering stream test this year. Of them, only 90,556 were given Eamcet ranks with 12,454 failing in Inter and another 1,363 students not submitting details of their 10+2 marks to officials.
In the medical stream, 84,659 students appeared for the test but Eamcet ranks were given to only 72,794 students with 4,994 failing in Inter exams and another 1,195 failing to submit their 10+2 marks details. The overall TS pass percentage in the engineering stream stood at 70.65 per cent, while that of medical stream was at 85.98 per cent.
Among students from the minority communities, a significant number of Muslims and Christian students qualified while there were very few Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains. Another notable point is that there was one “zero scorer” in Eamcet who was declared qualified in the medical stream.
While the qualifying marks are stipulated at 25 per cent, students from SC/ST categories are declared qualified even if they score zero in Eamcet but pass in Inter exams.
However, they would be eligible for MBBS admissions only if they secure 50 per cent marks in Inter BiPC subjects as per MCI norms.
