Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police have started the process of installing 3,000 CCTV cameras in its vast jurisdiction of 3,700 sq km to develop a ‘Safe and Smart City’ in Greater Hyderabad. The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, CV Anand, on Thursday told the media that the project was being implemented in four parts.

The State government had sanctioned of Rs 50 crore for this purpose, he said. “This is the first CCTV project to be taken up by the State government. Tender process was successfully completed,” he said. The sanctioned sum would be used to install about 1,000 CCTV cameras.

A sum of Rs 60 lakh had been sanctioned for installing 6 to 12 CCTVs in each of the 44 L&O police stations in Cyberabad. These CCTVs would be installed at entrances, exits, parking places, reception centres, women help desks, lock ups and other public interaction places in the police stations, he said.

“Telangana is the only State to have a Public Safety Act legislation, which makes it mandatory for the business establishments having a gathering of 100 or more people to set up CCTVs to cover entrances, exits and parking places. The police will conduct a survey in identified locality or area to assess the number of cameras needed,” the CP added.
