Kannada film actor Chetan has alleged that he was assaulted by a police sub-inspector attached to Cubbon Park police station in the early hours of 25 January.
Following the incident, the actor approached police commissioner MN Reddi demanding action against the sub-inspector, as well as the ACP of Halasur Gate sub-division, who allegedly gave his verbal consent for the assault.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the commissioner on Thursday, Chetan said he was assaulted by sub-inspector Naveen Suvekar when he had gone to meet his friends on Church Street at around 1.45 am on January 25. "As we were about to leave, the PSI approached my vehicle and took away the key. Without any reason, he started assaulting me. He hit me on my face and head six times. ACP Amarnath Reddy was alongside the PSI and supported his act," the actor said. The actor said they were allowed to leave after the incident, but he voluntarily went to the Cubbon Park police station at around 3.30 am to file a complaint in connection with the incident.
"But Suvekar came to the station and assaulted me again before putting me inside the lockup," Chetan said. Meanwhile, DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil said the actor had filed a complaint with him regarding the incident. "I have asked the ACP Cubbon Park Shobha Rani to probe the matter and submit a report. We will investigate the case fairly and impartially," he added.
