Amaravati, a Pali word which means 'Abode of the Deathless', have the history and heritage to become the New Capital of Andhra Pradesh. And Hence, AP Cabinet cleared the name even though proposals of naming the capital after former CM late NT Rama Rao coming to its notice.
Amaravati is known to be a special place for Buddhism. The Biddhist stupas have been built even before the Mouli Dynasty was established. Gautam Buddha have delivered his preaching here.
Amaravati served as the capital of Satavahanas in 2nd Century BCE. The Amareshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is very famous.
Danyakatakam spread across 16 km used to be a major city. Amaravati and Daranikota used to be part of it. Statues found by Archaeological Department in Amaravati were now in Museums at Madras & London.
