Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu declares a gift pack consisting of essential commodities will be supplied to all Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Andhra Pradesh as Pongal 2015 gift.
 
The bag contains ingredients [palm oil (500 ml), wheat flour (one kilo), bengal gram (500 gm), channa (one kilo), jaggery (500 gm) and ghee (100 gm)] which help people celebrate the festival in a traditional way and Government decided to bear a cost of Rs 220 per family. A burden of Rs 287 crore will fall on the state exchequer to supply the gift pack to about 1.3 crore BPL Families in the state.
 
TDP Government have plans to continue this Gift Pack scheme before all the major festivals  including those celebrated by Muslim and Christian Communities in the state. The proposal of gifting new clothes to old age pension holders on major festivals is under consideration.
