MUMBAI:
Seven people have died and 25 injured in a major fire at a lakeside 21-storey residential building in Chandivali, Powai, in the suburb of Mumbai on Saturday evening.

Some of the injured are reportedly to be in a critical condition. According to the police the death count could go up.

Fire brigade rescued several people trapped inside the building. Fifteen fire tenders were used to douse the fire.

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone X) Vinayak Deshmukh said three of the dead bodies were found in the lift. At present 25 injured, some critical, undergoing treatment.

The DCP said they will receive the preliminary report of the cause of fire from the fire department on Sunday.
