A one-and-half months old baby boy, allegedly sold by his mother for Rs 1.32 lakh, was today recovered from Nacharam area here, police said.
B Rajitha, native of Karimangar district of Telangana, had lodged a complaint with Marredpally police station here claiming that a 50-year-old woman stole her baby son -- one of the twins -- from Jubilee Bus Station here on February 7.
But the probe revealed that Rajitha herself, due to poverty, sold the boy to Bhujanga Rao of Warangal district in Telangana through agents Laxmi and Bhagyammma, police said. The police rescued the boy today, ACP B Thirupathi Rao said. Rajitha had told the police that she visited Habsiguda with her twin boys, elder son who is three years old, and her mother on February 7 for some personal work.
As they were at Jubilee Bus station for catching return bus to Karimnagar, her mother went to washroom and the elder son ran to his grandmother. Before going after him to catch him, Rajitha handed one of the twins to an unidentified old woman; upon return she found the woman along with the boy missing. However, police found out that she had cooked up the whole story, and in reality the child had been sold. Nobody had been arrested yet as Rajitha was being brought here from Karimnagar, said the ACP
