Academic sessions to commence from July 2015
Tirupati: Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and other Central and State Ministers will lay the foundation stone for premier education institutes - Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) near Panguru of Yerpedu mandal near Tirupati on Saturday.
Briefing mediapersons in Tirupati on Friday, Chittoor District Collector Siddharth Jain stated that the district administration had so far acquired close to 550 acres of land for IIT near Merlapaka and around 250 acres of land around Panguru village in Yerpedu mandal near Tirupati. Pointing out that besides the government lands, the district administration had acquired lands from the farmers, with their consent only, the District Collector stated that the State government had already disbursed a sum of Rs 70 crore towards the compensation to the farmers.
Jain exuded confidence that the premier institutes would operate on a full-scale within the next 2-3 years. Replying a question, the District Collector stated that the premier institutes would commence the academic sessions from this July itself in make-shift campuses in all probability.
Meanwhile, Siddharth Jain on Friday reviewed the arrangements for the foundation-stone laying ceremony for the top premier institutes to be attended by the Chief Minister and Union Ministers on Saturday. According to the District Collector, the Chief Minister and the Union Ministers would lay the foundation stone for the three-premier institutes including IIT and IISER in Yerpedu mandal and the IIIT at Sri City campus in the afternoon on Saturday. A massive public meeting is also scheduled at the venue .
