Sandra remanded in 14 day judicial custody

Hyderabad: The ACB Special Court on Tuesday remanded Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, the second TDP MLA, who was arrested in connection with cash-for-vote scandal, to  judicial custody for 14 days.The MLA was brought from the ACB office to the Special Court for ACB and SPE cases at Purana Haveli in the Old City on Tuesday around 10.30 am.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the judge M Lakshmipathi sent him to judicial custody till July 21. He was later shifted to Cherlapally Jail. However, the court directed jail authorities to provide him special category status. The ACB moved a petition seeking the MLA’s custody for five days for further round of questioning as the investigation was at crucial stage and the accused need to be further interrogated.

The defence counsel of the MLA moved the bail petition. The court adjourned hearing on both the petitions to Wednesday. The ACB filed a memo in the court, saying that there were as many as 32 mobile calls between Harry Sebastian (Accused No. 2) and Venkata Veeraiah. The court was told that Venkata Veeraiah had played a pivotal role in the scandal and tried to induce a few more MLAs too.
