Boy dead, class teacher hits, relatives grieve
A five-year-old tribal boy succumbed to injuries after he was allegedly beaten up by his school teacher at Tirumalagiri village of Anumala mandal in Nalgonda district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Ramavath Chandu, son of a local tribal farmer Shankar.
According to the parents and relatives of the deceased, who held a demonstration in front of the school on Sunday morning, the boy arrived late to school on Saturday when a teacher slapped him, following which his head accidentally hit a nail on the nearby wall. He was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad where he died while undergoing treatment around midnight.
Haliya Inspector G. Shivashankar Goud said the parents and kin of the boy staged a protest and demanded action against the management. They also sought compensation from the management and government. However, it is understood that the parents and the school management came to an understanding by afternoon when the body was sent for post-mortem.
District president of Bala Hakkula Praja Dhawani (BHPD), an organisation working on child rights, Abhram, has demanded that the State government take strict action against the management by cancelling its recognition besides filing a murder case against them to check violence against children in schools. Hyderabad-based Balala Hakkula Sangham also demanded immediate arrest of the accused teacher and punishment if found guilty. The BHS also demanded action against the school and compensation for the victim’s family.
