New Delhi: After a mid sea operation against a Pakistani boat that probably averted a 26/11 like terror attack on New Years eve, sources say Indian authorities are on the lookout for a second boat which also came from Karachi around the same time. Indian secirity agencies are searching the second boat which is believed to be about 240 nautical miles from Porbandar.
Indian Coast Guard is in touch with intelligence agencies waiting for any lead. Sources also say that the consignment on board the boat, which was intercepted and later blow up by its crew, was reportedly heading for the Mahararashtra coastline. Keeping this in mind Maharashtra and Gujarat ports have now been put on high alert.
Indian Coast Guard ships and aircraft are continuing operations to search for wreckage and dead bodies in the area where they intercepted the Pakistani boat on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1.
Coast Guard IG Kuldeep Singh on Saturday said, "In the afternoon of December 1, we had positively identified a suspected boat 265 km south west of Porbandar. We tried to stop the boat and communicate with it, but there was no response from the boat."
"They switched on the light for some time and when we saw that those on board did not look like fishermen, the boat did not respond to out repeated signals but after sometime they themselves blew up the boat," he said.
On the current situation of the boat, the IG said, "We are investigating, the area is under surveillance and we are trying to recover something from it, haven't found anything yet."
Intelligence reports pointed to the boat possibly carrying explosives. Coast Guard spotted 4 people onboard and warned the boat to stop. But instead it picked up speed and tried to escape.
Coast Guard intercepted the suspicious Pakistani vessel with explosives along the maritime border off Gujarat coast but before the security officials could board the boat, it was set on fire by its occupants setting off explosions and it finally sank.
The incident took place almost 365 kms off Gujarat's Porbandar coast and once again highlights the maritime threats faced by India. All the four people on board the boat are believed to have died in the explosion and subsequent sinking of the vessel.
