Kakinada/Hyderabad: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Kirlampudi on Sunday to express solidarity with Mudragada Padmanabham who is on indefinite fast for quota to Kapu community. According to party sources, former Union minister Pallam Raju is in touch with Rahul Gandhi and is trying to bring him to Kirlampudi. APCC general secretary Pantam Venkateswara Rao alias Nanaji said Rahul is expected to reach Vizag by air from New Delhi and from there to Kirlampudi by road.
Congress circles in the region are jubilant over the possibility of Rahul Gandhi visiting the East Godavari district. It may be mentioned here that the Congress has been advocating for quota to Kapu, Telaga, Balija, Vontari sub castes right from 2014 general election.
This reporter’s efforts to contact the APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy to ascertain the Rahul itinerary have failed. When asked if it would not invite backlash from the BCs, the APCC general secretary said the Congress stand was that reservation for Kapus should be provided without affecting the interests of the BCs.
