TS Govt in debts: RTI

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government in the state borrowed a whopping Rs 51,000 crore from various agencies since it came to power in June 2014.

The government is planning to avail Rs 10,000 crore loan from World Bank for various infrastructure projects. Forum for Good Governance filed the Right To Information Act (RTI) query. The forum secretary M Padmanabha Reddy expressed concern over the borrowings of the state government.

Telangana government has to repay Rs 70,000 crore of Rs 1.8 lakh crore outstanding loans of United AP government. The government had already availed Rs 23,000 crore through sale of bonds, Rs 24,000 crore from Rural Electrification Corporation and Rs 4,000 crore from Power Finance Corporation.

Though KCR boasts that Telangana is rich state, it is not known why the state is borrowing heavily. The government exhausted its borrowing limits and written a letter to NITI Aayog seeking relaxation.
