Vel Tech University demonstrates aeronautical engineering

The Chennai-based Vel Tech University, demonstrated its aeronautical strength here on Thursday as part of its exercise to get admissions from this part of the State for the next academic year. The University vice-prsident KVD Kishore Kumar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr U Chandrasekhar interacted with the students and parents on the facilities available in the university and the quality education offered by them.

Kishore Kumar said that the university is continuously engaged in industry interaction and introducing industry-oriented courses. He said that they have over 190 MoUs signed so far with various industries and research and development laboratories across the globe. The students from the university take up projects and internships at internationally reputed industries, research laboratories, he said.

He also added that they have constant tie ups with universities in countries like Germany, France, USA, Japan and Taiwan. The students and staff also demonstrated the ‘Ornithopters’ which are otherwise called bird-mimicking objects that fly in the air with remote control. He said that the university trains students to build ornithopters from the modular kits and fly them.

The pro-vice-chancellor, Dr Chandrasekhar said that the university in association with Victoria University of Canada and Tamkang University of Taiwan has launched a full-field health monitoring of long bridges and heritage structures using autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles. The university is supported by the international body called IC IMPACTS, he said. He further claimed that this monitoring heritage structures and bridges with unmanned aerial vehicles is first of its kind in the country.
