Rubio pushes back on Obama over immigration

Marco Rubio argued that President Obama has no standing to criticize him over immigration because the president failed to pass immigration reform under his watch.

"President Obama has no standing to talk about immigration because his party controlled the White House, the House and the Senate for two years and they did nothing," he said during Wednesday's CNN GOP town hall in Greenville, S.C., just three days before that state's primary.

He went on to accuse Obama's controversial executive orders granting deportation delays for poisoning the well for moving immigration reform forward and argued that nothing can be done without securing the border.

The comments come one day after President Obama bashed Rubio for distancing himself from the 2013 Senate compromise immigration bill, which he co-authored.

"You've got a candidate who sponsored a bill that I supported to finally solve the immigration problem, and he's running away from it as fast as he can," Obama said during a press conference Tuesday.

Rubio also argued that he didn't think the Senate version would pass through the more conservative House, but was hoping that the House would take up the legislation and strengthen it.

"I didn't think the Senate version would pass as is. I knew it wouldn't and I repeatedly said that during the process," he said.

"That was the best we could produce in a Senate controlled by Democrats."
