Andhra Pradesh to decide on capital land lease

Hyderabad: The state government will allot lands acquired from farmers for the new capital on 99-year lease to individuals or institutions by way of nomination or through tenders.

This was disclosed by municipal administration minister P. Narayana during Question Hour in the Assembly on Saturday.

Mr Narayana said that the government will take a decision in this regard after issuing the land pooling scheme notification, after Opposition YSR Congress demanded cancellation of the Act amended in the previous session on allocation of government lands on 99-year lease basis.

When YSRC member A. Ramakrishna Reddy asked, “Whether the government has taken any decision on leasing or selling off land acquired from farmers for construction of the capital city to any private organisations or individuals, Mr Narayana replied, “No”.

The YSRC member said that the minister’s reply was misleading since the government issued GO No. 110 to lease lands for 99 years.

He said that the Assembly, in the previous session, had passed the amendment to this effect when Opposition was not present and demanded the Act be cancelled.

Later, Mr Narayana said that the government did not give any land on lease to anyone “so far”.
