HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana state unit will get a new president in May. The term of the present state president G Kishan Reddy expired last month and the party started the process of conducting organisational elections some time back so that the new president may be elected in February.
However, party sources indicated that the elections will now be held only after the Assembly elections to the five states in May.
Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry will go for polls between April 4 to May 16 and the counting will be held on May 19.
Apart from focusing on these elections, the party leadership is learnt to have mulling some changes in the party structure after the elections to the five states.
The party leadership is likely to revamp the national executive and leaders from the state may find a place in it. Those who are already in the national level politics might revert to organisational posts in the state, the sources said.
Also, the Centre is likely to fill up nominated posts in various bodies and some leaders will be accommodated in them. ‘’After the revamp and filling up of nominated posts, the state unit will be given the new shape,’’ the sources said.
‘’Not only Telangana, the Andhra Pradesh unit will also be revamped after the elections to the five states,’’ the source said.
The party is likely to appoint a BC leader for the president post this time. It is keen on Musheerabad MLA and BJP Legislature party leader in the state Assembly Dr K Laxman for the post. However, Laxman is said to be not inclined to take the post.
With this, the party is looking towards others like E Laxminarayana. It is reportedly considering the name of MLC N Ramachander Rao, though he does not belong to BC community.
