Manjhi plays the Mahadalit card, targets Nitish

Playing a martyr after resigning as Bihar Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi hit out at his predecessor Nitish Kumar accusing him of trying to remote control his (Manjhi's) government. He alleged horse trading by the Nitish Kumar camp and claimed that he and his MLAs were also threatened.

Manjhi played the Mahadalit card and said he was victimised because he belongs to the most backward caste. Manjhi also attacked Bihar Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary saying that he precipitated the crisis. "Seating arrangement done by the Bihar Assembly Speaker was not as per tradition," he said.

Hours ahead of the trust vote on Friday, Manjhi submitted his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.

Manjhi, who rebelled against Nitish Kumar, was expelled by JDU and was to prove his majority after the Governor's address.

On Thursday, the BJP announced support to Manjhi but he still did not have the numbers to win the trust vote after JDU and its allies like RJD and Congress rallied behind Nitish Kumar.
