The Telangana Auto Driver Unions JAC has called for a bandh on April 30 against the implementation of the Road Transport Safety Bill. Union leaders claim that the penalties in the new bill are too high which will lead the auto drivers out of business. A Sathi Reddy, general secretary, Telangana Auto Drivers Samakhya, said, “The fine for driving on the wrong route the first time is Rs 5,000, second time is Rs 10,000 and the third time it goes up to Rs 15,000. Likewise, if the vehicle is not in good condition the penalty is Rs 50,000.” Auto driver unions say that the RTSB proposals pertaining to violation of traffic signals, vehicle permit and other aspects are unacceptable. The penalties are in thousands.
