As a special bench of the Karnataka High Court is to deliver crucial verdict on former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's appeal against her conviction in a disproportionate assets case, security has been stepped up in Bengaluru on Monday and Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) clamped.
The special high court bench headed by Justice CR Kumaraswamy will pronounce the judgment at 11 am as directed by the Supreme Court, which extended Jayalalithaa's bail up to May 12.

The fate of the AIADMK chief's appeal against her conviction and four years of jailing by a special court in Bengaluru will be decided by the Karnataka High Court on Monday.
A special court had convicted her in an 18-year-old disproportionate assets case (known as DA case) and sent her to jail in September 2014. Thereafter, Jayalalithaa and four others including her closest aide VK Sasikala Natarajan, her estranged foster son Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi were sent to Bengaluru central prison.
They were released after obtaining a conditional bail and suspension of sentencing by the Supreme Court a month later.
