Araku Lok Sabha Member Kothapalli Geetha was discharged from a private hospital in the city on Tuesday afternoon after being treated for swine flu.

Ms. Geetha, who had experienced symptoms of swine flu as she was coming to the city from Delhi by air, had gone straight to the Queen’s NRI Hospital on January 29 and got herself admitted. Treatment for swine flu had been started even before the swab test result, which came positive, was received.

Ms. Geetha was discharged after she was totally cured of swine flu.

Her supporters are celebrating her birthday at her camp office in Seetammadhara here on Wednesday morning.

Review meeting

Meanwhile, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao held a review meeting on swine flu with district officials, representatives of private hospitals and service organisations. Minister for Agriculture Pattipati Pulla Rao was present. Later, Mr Srinivasa Rao told reporters that medicines, ventilators etc. to treat swine flu were provided at every government hospital.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu thoroughly discussed the situation in the State during a Cabinet meeting on Monday and said health emergency would be declared, if necessary. Swine flu testing labs would be established in the city, Vijayawada and Tirupati to avoid delay in conducting tests since the IPM in Hyderabad was not able to cope up with the flood of samples it was receiving.

Swine flu screening centres would be established at public places like railway stations, bus stations, airport, etc. and awareness campaign would be stepped up through local cable channels, cinema slides, FM radio and print medium.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao assured people that they need not get panic and what they should do was to consult a doctor when swine flu symptoms were noticed and follow the doctor’s advice.
