VMC now pins hopes on penalisation scheme,Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, government introduced Building Penalisation Scheme
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) authorities are expecting to rake in good revenues through its penalisation scheme if the government goes ahead with a proposal to regularise unauthorised constructions in the State.
The VMC, sources say, is expecting that Rs. 60 crore to Rs.100 crore would be generated if the penalisaiton scheme was implemented. According to a rough estimate, more than 12,000 unauthorised constructions are there in the city. The government is yet to fix the penal amount for violation of guidelines, officials say.
The State government in earlier instances also regularized unauthorized and illegal constructions also. The government introduced Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) in 2007 and Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) in 1997.
The Corporation had received 15,826 applications under BPS. More than 3,200 applications have not been accepted for various reasons. As many as 800 applications were rejected for reasons such as construction in violation of the master plan and objection from the Fire Services Department. Of the pending applications, at least 2,000 are eligible for regulation of deviations.
These applicants have not paid the total penal amount or not submitted documents. The Corporation would have accrued Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 7 crore more revenue had these applications been sorted out.
