IICT,fluoride-hit areas,water plants
The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) has come forward to set up water plants in fluoride-hit areas of Nalgonda district to supply safe drinking water.
At a meeting with district officials here on Monday, IICT scientist S. Chandrasekhar said that they have come up with modern technology to supply safe drinking water in the areas where the fluorine content is alarmingly higher than the permissible level. He expressed his willingness to work with NGOs and district administration to ground the projects shortly.
Swift move
In a swift response, district Collector P. Satyanarayna Reddy asked the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) to identify the voluntary organisations that are active in fluoride-hit areas to set up the plants.
The Collector also appointed Executive Director of SC Corporation C. Sridhar as in-charge to oversee plant works of IICT at welfare hostels that are deprived of safe drinking supply.
Mr. Reddy said that they would ground the project within 15 days.
National Institute of Nutrition, Director, Arjun. L. Kandhre, IICT scientists Sridhar and Yella Reddy, Joint Collector N. Satyanarayana, DRO Ravi Nayak, RWS, SE, Ramana, DWAMA, PD, K. Damodar Reddy and others were present.
