Hyderabad: The oldest market in the capital constructed with a mix of Islamic and Indo-European style architecture would get a facelift. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced this after inspecting the market on Saturday. The market with 380 shops with a total built-up area of 13,712 sqm in an area of 26,230 sqm has seen better days. The market was constructed to cater to the then British Army units stationed in Secunderabad.

Deputy CM Mohammed Ali and ministers Naini Narsimha Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, GHMC Commissioner & Special Officer Somesh Kumar, Government Advisor V Prakash and other senior officials of the GHMC were accompanied the CM during his visit to the market.

The CM interacted with vendors and heard their grievances. He assured the vendors that the market would be modernised and all essential amenities, including toilets, would be provided.  KCR had directed officials to improve the facilities on priority basis. Mohammed Ishaq, a meat vendor, said the market needed a facelift immediately as there was no development activity taken up all these years.
