Home Minister Rajnath Singh today disassociated the government and BJP from remarks made by his new alliance partner in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Within hours of taking oath on Sunday, Mr Sayeed said the Hurriyat, militant outfits and "people from across the border" - construed as an oblique reference to Pakistan - allowed conducive atmosphere for assembly polls.
"Our government and BJP fully dissociates with the statement of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed crediting Pakistan and Hurriyat for smooth conduct of assembly," the Home Minister said in the Lok Sabha today.
"The credit for conducive environment for polls in Jammu and Kashmir goes to the Election Commission, our armed forces and people of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
Mr Singh also said that he is making this statement after discussion with and consent of the Prime Minister.
