Telangana and Andhra Pradesh lock horns over Eamcet-CETs,Eamcet,Common Entrance Tests (CETs),APSCHE schedule announced
Hyderabad: Telangana and AP have locked horns over Eamcet and other Common Entrance Tests (CETs) again.
The AP State Council of Higher Education on Monday issued a common schedule for both TS and AP for Eamcet and CETs claiming that only it has the power to conduct CETs as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Within hours, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education said that it has nothing to with the APSCHE schedule announced ‘unilaterally’ and made it clear that it will conduct its own Eamcet and other CETs.
Interestingly, both the governments took shelter under the same Act. While APSCHE chairman Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy said the decision was taken after taking the legal opinion of the AP advocate-general, TSCHE chairman Prof. Papi Reddy claimed that Chief Minister KCR had approved separate CETs for Telangana and an announcement is expected soon. Both the governments are planning to approach courts in case there is no consensus.
The APSCHE announced that it will hold the Eamcet on May 10, Ecet on May 14, Icet on May 16, Edcet on May 28 and Lawcet on May 30.
“This schedule applies for both AP and TS since APSCHE has the power to conduct CETs for both the states as per the AP Reorganisation Act. We sought legal opinion before announcing the schedule.
The advocate-general advised us to go ahead with the common schedule. We urge the Telangana government to cooperate with us and agree to common CETs,” Prof. L.V. Reddy said.
However, Prof. Papi Reddy held an emergency meeting at TSCHE and said that TS will hold its own Eamcet. “APSCHE is acting unilaterally. We will conduct our own CETs as per the AP Reorganisation Act. The Act talks only about common admissions and not common exams,” he added.
Prof. Papi Reddy said that they have already sent the file to KCR on holding CETs and it was approved on Sunday and orders are expected soon.
